Marquette Alumnus and International Growth Equity Portfolio Manager with CIBC in Chicago, Dan Delany visited the Marquette AIM program this past week

Daniel P. Delany, CFA

Marquette alumnus, Dan Delany, is an equities portfolio manager for CIBC Private Wealth Management,

He is a Managing Director and CFA charterholder with more than 20 years of industry experience.

Prior to joining Team Geneva Advisors, which became part of CIBC in 2017, he was a portfolio manager and investment analyst at Oak Ridge Investments in Chicago. He began his investment career at Kemper Funds in 1993 and later worked for UBS AG in Europe and William Blair & Company in Chicago.

Dan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in international affairs from Marquette University.

He then earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and, subsequently, his Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

He is an active member of the CFA Society of Chicago and president of the School Advisory Board at the St. Norbert School in Northbrook, Illinois.

Dr. David Krause, AIM program director, said: “Because the AIM students also manage an international equity portfolio (with the same benchmark – the MSCI All-Country World Index ex-USA), Dan’s visit was especially important. He is a seasoned investment manager with more than 25 years of diverse experience.“

He continued, “Dan has impressive and significant capabilities in international portfolio management with a long-term track record of above benchmark returns.”

He talked with the students about his team’s investment philosophy and process. With a  global perspective from living and working abroad in Madrid, Zurich, and London, he offered unique insights about the challenge of investing outside the US.

Dan talked with the students about how the CIBC International Growth team takes a bottom up approach to investing and is distinguished from peers on three factors:
  • Core Allocation to International Equities (with a consistent exposure to all major countries and regions, EM and DM exposure, and macro awareness)
  • Unique Growth Approach (growth investing is an under-penetrated approach abroad, quality growth orientation with contrarian buy discipline, and exposure to all capitalizations)
  • Concentrated / High Active Share (built for SMAs with ADRs, >90% Active Share, and a “Stock Pickers” portfolio approach).
Dr. Krause elaborated, “It is always a pleasure to have experienced investment professionals in the  classroom. Dan was a dynamic speaker and has an incredible wealth of investment experience with firms located offshore. The AIM students were treated to an interesting and timely overview of what’s happening in global markets and I know they appreciated his visit to campus.”
