Krause 2013 Derby Pick

#5 NORMANDY INVASION (Odds: 9:1). This is a challenging Derby to predict so I’m going with a sentimental favorite since my father came ashore on D-Day at Normandy. This is a real value pick with odds likely to be about 10:1 at post time. The biggest concern with #5 is that he does not win races – at least not yet.

The horse finished second in the Wood Memorial last month and the extra distance in the Derby makes him a possible winner. I don’t know much about Chad Brown other than the insiders think he is one of the best young trainers in the business. Javier Castellano is a solid jockey and has won a Triple Crown race (2006 Preakness).  A slow starter, but with a decent post position, watch for Normandy Invasion to move forward – I like him and the potential big payout.
