Herwin Yip, AIM Student, Will Be Graduating on Sunday, December 19

Herwin Yip

AIM student, Herwin Yip, completed his last undergraduate class at Marquette University on Friday afternoon and will be graduating on Sunday, December 19. He is a member of the AIM Class of 2011 and has been an active member and officer of Marquette's Financial Management Association (FMA) and Investment Club.

Dr. David Krause, AIM program director said, "Herwin has been an excellent student since he first stepped on to the Marquette campus. It has been pleasure to have in him in my classes the past three years - it has been enjoyable to watch his intellectual growth. His positive personality and deep passion for finance will be missed in the AIM program and in our finance classrooms. Herwin always had a thoughtful comment or constructive question to ask our outside speakers or his fellow AIM students. Anyone who has taught understands that there are certain students that are essential to maintaining a balance and focus in the classroom - and Herwin played that role. He was always well prepared for class and offered excellent observations. His positive personality was also infectious and we'll truly miss him."

Herwin Yip will be moving to New York and joining Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s Capital Markets Analyst Program. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney is unique in that it is the only wealth management firm to have an independent capital markets platform and an analyst program. They provide a fully integrated sales, trading and content model that extends across multiple asset classes, providing differentiated, commercial content and quality service. Marquette alumnus, Mark Davino, works at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Capital Markets in New York and was instrumental in helping Herwin gain his summer internship. Dr. Krause said, "Mark has provided Herwin and other Marquette students will valuable advice and guidance over the past several years. I know that Herwin appreciates all the help from the Marquette NYC finance alumni and will become an active member of the group when he starts his career."

Dr. Krause continued, "Herwin came to Marquette with a university degree already in hand. In 2005 he received a diploma in Biotechnology from Singapore Polytechnic. His research thesis was on embryonic stem cells and tissue engineering. It was natural for him to be one of the two AIM Equity Fund healthcare analysts. He always liked to research and present pharmaceutical stocks."

Best Wishes to Herwin
"His his academic experience at Marquette was similar to his success at Singapore Polytechnic; he was continuously on the Dean's list and an active member of numerous student and scholarly societies," Krause added. "Herwin also served for 18 months in the 30th Singapore Combat Engineers Battalion before entering Marquette University."

"As those of us who have come to know him here at Marquette, we appreciate how multi-talented he is. Herwin is proficient in written and spoken Mandarin - and he enjoys basketball, acoustic guitar and hiking." Dr. Krause quipped, "Herwin also was the AIM program's fashion adviser and was known for his ability to always be on the leading edge of the latest emerging social trends. I'll miss Herwin because he always had his antenna up and watched for changing economic conditions. He was also the AIM student in this year's class who correctly called the 10 year Treasury to break 3.00% - a full month before the yields rose in early December. Herwin Yip has excellent financial instincts and I know he'll be very successful - he will be missed in the classroom and we all wish him the best of luck!"
