On Friday, April 15, John Mellinger, Senior Consultant, Bogdahn Consulting Group, was a guest speaker in Dr. Krause’s AIM program. John is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a 20+ year veteran of the investment industry. He is also an alumnus of Marquette University.
Dr. Krause, AIM program director, said, “I have worked with John over the past several years and knew that he would be effective in the classroom. He was able to talk with the students from both the perspective of a consultant reviewing an investment manager – and from the perspective of presenting investment performance results to Bogdahn’s clients. I know that the AIM students were highly impressed with John’s knowledge of the investment industry. His visit helped them prepare for their upcoming AIM Fund annual performance report, which will be delivered the last week of the semester.”
The Bogdahn Group is a full service registered investment advisory firm headquartered in Orlando, Florida, with offices located throughout the United States. The firm seeks to provide their investment clients with objective and unbiased information so that they can prudently evaluate their portfolio allocations and performance. The firm is not engaged in any soft-dollar fee arrangements and Bogdahn is not affiliated with any investment management firms or other service providers. John Mellinger works out of their Milwaukee office as a Senior Consultant and is dedicated to finding the best investment solutions for Bogdahn’s clients, which include pension funds, Taft-Hartley plans, foundations and endowments.
Prior to joining Bogdahn Consulting he worked as a Senior Consultant at Alpha Investment Consulting Group in Milwaukee John specializes in helping the firm identify areas where clients could more efficiently use their investment dollars. He demonstrated particular expertise in working with the company's 401(k), Foundation and Taft-Hartley clients. For the 401(k) plans, John helps clients select investment options and prepared "mixes" of those options that showed plan participants how to allocate among those funds in the most efficient method for different levels of risk.
Previous to his employment with Alpha, John spent 10 years at Firstar Bank in Milwaukee where he served the banks largest clients as a Senior Trust Officer. John is a CPA and graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee.
Dr. Krause concluded, “John’s discussion with the AIM students in the Class of 2011 was very beneficial. He talked about the importance of understanding an investment firm’s philosophy, strategy, process and personnel. His examples provided the students with a glimpse of how clients view investment managers and the importance of consistency in the investment process. He offered insights that we can find in investment texts. The students again noted the importance of experience in evaluating investment managers and establishing asset allocations. We look forward to John visiting us again next year.”
