Dan Tranchita and Andy O'Connell of Baird Advisors Were Guest Speakers in Dr. Krause’s Fixed Income Class
This marks the 13th consecutive year that Dan Tranchita has presented to the students in Dr. Krause’s fixed income course. He has over 27 years of investment experience managing a broad range of fixed income portfolios. He plays a lead role in research and strategy development in the mortgage and asset-backed sectors.
Dan received his undergraduate degree and his MBA from Marquette University and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1993. Dan is currently a member of the CFA Institute and is a member of the CFA Society of Milwaukee. Prior to joining Baird Advisors, Dan was a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager with Firstar Investment Research and Management Company (FIRMCO).
Andy O’Connell has nearly 10 years of investment experience and he focuses on research and analysis in investment-grade and high-yield corporate credits. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Marquette University, where he was a graduate of the Applied Investment Management (AIM) program. Andy received the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2012 and is currently a member of the CFA Institute and is a member of the CFA Society of Milwaukee. Prior to joining Baird Advisors, Andy performed credit research at M&I Investment Management.
Dr. David Krause, AIM director, said “I enjoy having our alumni return to campus and I especially enjoy having members of Baird Advisors’ Fixed Income team. Annually in mid-September they host the Baird Institutional Investors Conference and we arrange their visit to campus so that we have an opportunity to receive their macro-economic assessment and outlook. The students really enjoy the presentation each year and it was a pleasure to have Dan and Andy join us again this year.”

The guests form Baird talked to the students in Marquette’s Fixed Income class about the current environment of low (and even negative) rates and the level of economic uncertainty. Dan and Andy answered questions about the current level of interest rates and the lower than expected inflation rates experienced by the U.S. and other major economies have been experiencing. In addition, the students enjoyed hearing the conversations between Dan, Andy and Dr. Krause about the economic outlook and the potential impact of the upcoming U.S. elections.
Dr. Krause concluded, “Having the professionals from Baird Advisors join us at the beginning of the semester is an excellent introduction for my students into the world of fixed income investing – which incorporates an understanding of geo-politics, central bank policy, credit analysis and financial theory.”
