On February 21, 2019, Marquette University’s AIM Blue team won the Madison Wisconsin CFA Investment Research Challenge held at the Premier Park Hotel in Madison, Wisconsin.

They advance to the Americas Regional Finals in New York on April 23-25. The event will be held at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel, 1535 Broadway, NYC.

The winning teams for 53 local North and South America competitions will be competing in NYC for the title of Americas CFA Institute Research Challenge champion. The winner moves on to the Global competition against the winning teams from Asia and Europe.

Dr. David Krause, AIM program director and CFA team faculty advisor, commented “I’m proud of the members of the AIM program who participated in the CFA Research Challenge. Drew North (AIM alumnus) served as the team’s industry mentor and I want to send out a special thank you to him for his efforts to support the student teams. I believe that both the Blue and the Gold teams could have been the overall winner – they both did an outstanding job. We look forward to participating in the Americas Challenge in New York in April.”

The members of the AIM Blue team included:
  • Michael Healy
  • Stephen Lane
  • Tommy Borin
  • Andrea Blomquist
  • Greg Glaab

The CFA Society research company this year was Duluth Holdings Inc. (Ticker: DLTH). The teams in the competition included students from:
  • Carthage College
  • Marquette University - Blue  & Gold Teams
  • UW-Milwaukee
  • UW-Eau Claire

Each of the teams in the local competition were required to make a 10-minute oral presentation to a panel of judges followed by 10 minutes of Q&A. The panel graded the presentation and Question and Answer competitions – and when combined with the score on the written research report – were able to determine the winning team.
