The GIRC will include over 40 North and South American universities that won their local CFA competitions. The winner of the Americas’ challenge, which is being held this year in Omaha, will compete against the top teams from Asia and Europe for the GIRC championship. It has been reported by the CFA Institute that more than 450 universities worldwide participated in this year’s GIRC. Since first competing in 2009, Marquette University’s AIM team has won the Milwaukee CFA investment competition each year.
The Marquette students, who are all seniors in the Applied Investment Management program, defeated teams from Carroll University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, UW-La Crosse and UW-Milwaukee in the final presentations of the local competition, which was hosted by the CFA Society of Milwaukee. Members of the winning team include Luke Darkow, Kristin Holzhauer, Mark Rutherford, Christina Starkey and David Zakutansky. The panel of judges was comprised of Joseph M. Eberhardy, CFA, Wells Fargo Advantage Funds; Lucas W. Fairborn, CFA, Artisan Partners; and Andy Hintz, CFA, Grace Matthews. This year’s subject company that the students researched was Quad/Graphics (ticker: QUAD).
The following pictures show the three Marquette University AIM GIRC teams that have advanced to the CFA Americas' Investment Research Challenge. Dr. Krause said, "Each year we get a little better with our analysis and presentation skills. I believe that eventually we will have a Marquette team go to the global finals. I'm proud of each group and believe that we will have a strong team next year."
