Marquette University has record-breaking year for enrollment, overall diversity, graduation rates

Official fall 2018 enrollment, retention and graduation rate statistics, compiled by the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis, are now available on the OIRA website. The university broke a key enrollment record this year, boasting the largest first-year class in university history. Marquette also has its most diverse student population ever and its highest four-year and six-year graduation rates.

Marquette currently enrolls 11,605 students, of which 25 percent are students of color, making it the most diverse student population in Marquette’s history. The undergraduate student body, numbering 8,425, represents 73 percent of total student enrollment and is 28 percent students of color, another record.
The first-year class of 2,162 students is Marquette’s largest since the university started keeping such records in 1960. The class is 27 percent students of color and 21 percent first-generation. The first-to-second year retention rate of first-year students who started in fall 2017 is 87 percent, down from previous years. The six-year graduation rate of first-year students who started in fall 2012 is 85 percent, the highest in Marquette history, up significantly from previous years. The four-year graduation rate of first-year students who started in fall 2014 is 67%, also a Marquette record.
Graduate and professional students, with 3,170 enrolled in fall 2018, represent 27 percent of total enrollment. There are 1,467 students enrolled in master’s programs; 481 in Ph.D. programs; 1,109 in professional doctorate programs; and 72 are in non-degree or certificate programs.
