Paul Buethe and Dr. David Krause |
Paul Buethe,
Portfolio Manager, of Crabel Capital Management visited Dr. David Krause’s Alternative
Investments class on September 26th. Mr. Buethe earned his BS from
the University of Nebraska in 1985 and an MBA from Columbia University in 1987.
In July 2000.
Mr. Buethe joined Crabel
Capital nearly two decades ago and today he spends most of his time managing
his portfolio and conducting research. Crabel Capital Management is a Wisconsin
limited liability company formed in 1997 by William Crabel. It is a global
alternative investment firm specializing in futures and foreign currency
trading.
Pioneers of short-term, systematic trading, the firm has evolved over
the last two decades to offer broadly diversified, unique products that are
valuable complements to sophisticated portfolio design. As Mr. Buethe explained
to the students, Crabel invests on behalf of qualified institutions, funds of
funds, family offices and high net worth individuals.
Dr. Krause commented, “It was
a pleasure to have Mr. Buethe join us at Marquette. The students were intrigued
by his systematic trading approaches and found his visit to be one of the most
interesting of the semester. This opened many eyes as to how a firm like Crabel
approaches today’s investment opportunities.”
On Friday, September 28th,
Mike Underhill visited the Dr. Krause’s Alternative Investments class and the AIM
program. He is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Capital Innovations,
a global real asset investment manager. His team at Capital Innovations has
been actively observing and investing in the global markets for over twenty
years – specializing in infrastructure investing.
Mike Underhill in the AIM Room |
Dr. David Krause, AIM program
director said, “It is always a pleasure to have Michael in the classroom. He
has incredible work experience with AllianceBernstein, INVESCO, Janus,
Federated Investors, and Lehman Brothers.
He is the author of the Handbook of
Infrastructure Investing and is he excellent in the classroom. The students
were treated to an outstanding overview of infrastructure investing and I know
they appreciated his visit to campus. He also gave the juniors in the AIM
program insights into the equity investment process.”
Mr. Underhill talked about
the firm’s fundamental research process and their approach to constructing and
managing a real asset portfolio. Krause added, “I like how they allow time for
their investment to work. While they do pay attention to current trends, their
portfolio is built to withstand the business cycle. It was useful for the
students to see the discipline required to invest in the real asset space.”
