Last Week Marquette's AIM Team Competed in the Semi-Final Round of the Americas CFA Research Challenge

7th Time in the Past 8 Years that a Marquette AIM Has Advanced to the Americas Level of the CFA Research Challenge
A team of students from the Applied Investment Management (AIM) program from Marquette University competed last week in the semi-final round of the Americas Region in the tenth annual CFA Institute Research Challenge.
The team consisted of: Paul Tran, Ryan Woo, Michael Reardon, Conor Connelly, and Joanne Wycklendt. They presented ManpowerGroup (MAN) before a panel of CFA judges - and unfortunately they did not advance to the final round of the Americas CFA Institute Research Challenge.

The CFA Research Challenge is an annual educational initiative that promotes best practices in equity research through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills. The annual competition, considered ‘the investment Olympics’ for university students, comprised over 1000 teams from universities across North and South America, Europe and Asia.
The event is being held this year in Chicago and is hosted by the CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals that sets the standard for professional excellence and credential. The Americas regional was made up of more than 60 teams from leading universities and business schools across the region.
Dr. David Krause, Marquette’s AIM program director stated, “Congratulations to the Marquette students for winning the local competition and advancing to the 2016 CFA Institute Research Challenge Americas Regional. This challenge is one of the most rigorous and competitive financial competitions globally, and I’m very proud of the team. They went above and beyond – I believe they embody the commitment that students at Marquette display. They help support of our mission which is one of service, integrity, stewardship and ethical excellence.”

The CFA Institute Research Challenge offers students the unique opportunity to learn applicable professional skills from leading industry experts and gain real-world experience as they assume the role of a research analyst. Through the course of the competition, which requires hundreds of hours of preparation, participants receive mentoring from an industry professional as they analyze a publicly traded company, write a professional research report, and present their research results and recommendations to a high-profile panel of experts. Ethics and professional standards are at the core and all participants are held to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Points are awarded to teams on the basis of their investment case, their poise, and their ability to answer the judges’ questions.
The CFA Institute is the global association of investment professionals that sets the standard for professional excellence and credentials. The organization is a champion for ethical behavior in investment markets and a respected source of knowledge in the global financial community. The end goal: to create an environment where investors’ interests come first, markets function at their best, and economies grow. CFA Institute has over 137,000 members in 145 countries and territories, including 130,800 CFA charterholders, and 147 member societies. For more information, visit www.cfainstitute.org.
